Verizon will be using Westell VDSL DSLAMs to distribute its FTTP FiOS service in Multiple Dwelling Units (MDUs). Westell was not able to provide any details on this deal.
Using VDSL to distribute fiber broadband services in MDUs is common. VDSL will operate over existing telephone wires at speeds approaching 100 Mbps due to the short length of these in house copper links.

always glad to be of service ;)
The most important question imo is what portion of VZ's MDUs footprint will be served via VDSL vs. cat5 or pure FTTH.
I still couldn't find an answer, perhaps the guys at VZ themselves don't know it yet. By what Westell's CEO said on their pr, it looks like a pretty significant deployment.

Ohad,
You are welcome.
Verizon has a lot of MDUs. Its territory includes Manhattan and other large East Coast cities. I don't think that wants to go ourt and rewire these buildings. I think that VDSL will be its standard approach in these cases.
