Light Reading has published and article stating that ATT will replace 17 thousand batteries in its VDSL remote cabinets. AT&T has experienced four fires due to battery failures, including one on Christmas Day 2007. These cabinets support the VDSL service that is the basis of ATT's U-Verse IPTV service.
This is clearly a serious situation that needs to be addressed. ATT asked if they could put one of these systems in my front yard. I am glad now that my wife insisted that we turn them down.
